A new beginning after years of ups and downs
Seven years after his unforgettable journey on Married At First Sight Australia, former groom Mick Gould has shared the news many fans had been hoping for—he’s engaged to longtime partner Jean Boyd.
The heartwarming milestone came just moments after the couple officially secured the purchase of their new home together. Celebrating two major life achievements in one day, Mick dropped to one knee and proposed, creating a memory they will never forget.
Sharing the special moment on Instagram, he wrote:
“We did a thing and bought a thing. Soon to be Mr and Mrs Gould. Love ya darl.”
Jean later reposted the proposal and sweetly replied with a simple promise:
“So it’s going to be forever.”

Fans celebrate the ending Mick always deserved
The announcement was met with an outpouring of love from followers and fellow reality TV stars.
Former Married At First Sight bride Bella Frizza joked, “The farmer finds a wife! Or something like that—congrats!”
Many longtime viewers reflected on Mick’s difficult experience on the show, saying they were thrilled to see him finally find lasting happiness.
One supporter wrote that Mick had always stood out for his genuine personality and deserved to meet someone who truly appreciated him, wishing the couple a home filled with laughter and love. Another added that finding love in real life was “far better than finding someone on a television show.”
From reality TV heartbreak to real-life love
Mick first became a household name during the dramatic sixth season of Married At First Sight Australia.
Paired with Jessika Power, his televised marriage quickly unravelled. The relationship reached its breaking point when Jessika began a secret romance with fellow participant Dan Webb while still remaining in the experiment.
Although Mick had already emotionally checked out of the relationship, he was deeply hurt after discovering Jessika had kept him in the experiment for weeks, largely so she could pursue Dan without leaving the show.
The revelation left Mick visibly emotional. Speaking openly at the time, he admitted he felt he had wasted valuable time and simply wanted to return to his farm in Queensland, making the betrayal even harder to accept.
Life after MAFS hasn’t always been easy
Following the series, Mick largely stepped away from the spotlight and focused on rebuilding his life.
He later dated former The Bachelor Australia contestant Kayla Gray, but the couple confirmed their separation in June 2023.
Away from relationships, Mick also faced one of the toughest chapters of his life in 2022 when catastrophic floods devastated his Queensland property.
Jean documented the heartbreaking aftermath on social media, revealing that floodwaters reached an astonishing 23 metres. The couple endured seven days stranded, nearly a week without electricity, several days without phone service, while also losing livestock and watching much of the property be destroyed.
The experience highlighted just how much they had overcome together.
A brighter future finally within reach
After years marked by public heartbreak, personal setbacks and natural disaster, Mick’s engagement represents far more than a wedding announcement.
With a new home, a partner by his side and plans to become Mr and Mrs Gould, the former reality TV groom appears to have found the stability and happiness that once seemed so far away—proving that sometimes life’s best love stories begin long after the cameras stop rolling.
