- Pippa Middleton had an awkward moment at an F1 race in Abu Dhabi over the weekend
- Ahead of the final race, Pippa and her husband, James Matthews, were approached by a reporter who appeared not to recognize Pippa
- The couple walked away without answering his question
Pippa Middleton popped up in Abu Dhabi after missing her sister Kate Middleton‘s Christmas carol service.
Pippa, 42, was in Abu Dhabi attending the F1 Grand Prix over the weekend with her husband, James Matthews, a former professional racer and a board member of the Williams F1 team.
During his “Qualifying Notebook” live segment on Dec. 5, Sky Sports reporter Ted Kravitz was walking through the paddock ahead of the final race of the event. He approached James and Pippa, who were standing and chatting with some other attendees, seeking their opinions on the race’s frontrunners Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen.
“[That’s] James Matthews from the Williams team. I don’t know whether he has a view on Max, Lando or Oscar,” Kravitz said as he walked up. “[He’s with] Rebecca Donaldson, Carlos Sainz’s other half.”
Upon reaching the group, who were still in discussion, the reporter asked, “Max, Lando or Oscar, anybody?”
James acknowledged Kravitz with a nod, but he and Pippa turned to walk off, seemingly without answering.
“I can’t hear anything or any names here,” Kravitz said as they walked away. “Okay, that’s fine.”
A clip from the segment was later shared on TikTok, where some commenters were flabbergasted that Kravitz didn’t appear to recognize Pippa, 42.

Pippa and James tied the knot in May 2017 and share three children, Arthur, 6, Grace, 4, and Rose, 3. Their attendance at the F1 race came as they didn’t appear at Princess Kate’s annual Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey, which was also held on Dec. 5.
The rest of the Princess of Wales’ family — parents Carole and Michael Middleton, Kate’s brother James Middleton, and his wife, Alizée Thevenet — were all in attendance for her fifth annual holiday event.
The Princess of Wales was also supported by her husband, Prince William, and their children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, as well as members of the royal family, like Zara and Mike Tindall, Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, and Queen Elizabeth‘s first cousin, Prince Michael of Kent.

While she may have missed out on her sister’s Christmas service this year, Pippa and Kate are known to be close. Earlier this year, the younger Middleton sister and her husband revealed a new project that is closely aligned with many of her sister’s royal causes.
On July 31, the Daily Mail reported that Pippa and James got permission from their local council to open a nursery at their Bucklebury Farm estate. The space on the couple’s 72-acre West Berkshire property will be for children between the ages of nine months and 5 years old. In the council’s approval, they noted that the new nursery will help alleviate a shortage of “early years places” in the area, providing “strong social benefits” for local children.
Early childhood development has long been a main focus of Kate’s in her royal patronage. In January 2023, she launched the “Shaping Us” campaign, an offshoot of The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood that she established in June 2021.
