‘I’d Still Choose Us’: Amanda Keller’s Emotional Tribute After 36 Years Together as Husband’s Health Battle Continues

‘I’d Still Choose Us Every Day’: Amanda Keller’s Emotional Tribute to Husband Harley After 36 Years Together

“I’d Still Choose Us Every Day”

Australian radio star Amanda Keller has shared a heartfelt tribute to her husband, Harley Oliver, as the couple marked 36 years of marriage.

To celebrate the milestone, Amanda posted a card she had sent Harley just before they tied the knot in 1990 while she was away filming Beyond 2000.

The card featured an illustration of an elderly couple peacefully sitting side by side, a light-hearted prediction of what she imagined their future together would look like.

“I sent this card to Harley just before we married,” Amanda wrote.

“I joked that we’d be sitting side by side in our dotage 40 years later.”

At the time, she admitted, four decades together felt almost impossible to imagine.

“But I was keen for it all and I believed in us.”

“We’ve Been Together for 36 Years”

Looking back on their journey, Amanda reflected on both the joy and heartbreak that have shaped their life together.

“Today is our 36th wedding anniversary,” she wrote.

“Not everything has been smooth sailing. Harley’s health means some days are scary, sad and confronting.

“But I’d still choose ‘us’ every day.

“Still on the ride. Still leaping and believing.”

Her words resonated deeply with fans, capturing the enduring love that has carried the couple through life’s most difficult chapters.

Living With Parkinson’s

Harley Oliver was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2017, although the family chose to keep the diagnosis private until Amanda revealed the news publicly in 2023.

Earlier this year, Amanda opened up on The Jonesy & Amanda Show about the emotional reality of watching the man she loves live with the progressive condition.

“It’s so hard, as you can imagine, to see the person you love not be as able as they used to be,” she said.

“And I’ve learned that birthdays, Valentine’s Day, anniversaries… our easy banter, our easy chat, our easy being with each other isn’t as easy anymore.”

The Valentine’s Day Gesture That Brought Her to Tears

Despite the challenges, Harley continues to find meaningful ways to show his love.

Amanda recalled returning home after walking their dog to discover a bouquet of flowers waiting on the kitchen bench.

“He obviously got someone to help him with that,” she explained.

His handwriting had become shaky because of Parkinson’s, but the handwritten note simply read:

“Please be my Valentine forever.”

Amanda admitted the thoughtful gesture meant more than words could express.

“Any effort from him like that just means so much to me. It’s a big deal.”

Friends Rally Around the Couple

Amanda’s anniversary tribute was met with an outpouring of support from friends across the Australian entertainment industry.

Miguel Maestre, Rebecca Gibney, Lisa Wilkinson, Leigh Sales and Deborah Hutton were among those sending messages of love, describing the couple’s 36-year relationship as a true example of lasting love and unwavering devotion.

“We Still Have Each Other”

The anniversary carried even deeper meaning after Amanda revealed last year that Harley had not been well enough for the pair to celebrate their 35th anniversary as they once would have.

Speaking on her radio show, she reflected on how their celebrations had changed.

“I’m grateful today that here we are, 35 years and we’re still in it together,” she said.

“But it’s hard.”

“It’s not the same as the old days where we’d be going out to dinner tonight. But I’m grateful that we still have each other.”

Amanda also shared Harley’s perspective on life’s uncertainty.

“As Harley himself says, we all have an asteroid coming at us. We don’t know what it is.”

A Family Built Through Hope

Just days before celebrating their anniversary, Amanda also marked another emotional milestone as her eldest son Liam turned 25.

Sharing photos from throughout his life, she reflected on the years she and Harley spent undergoing IVF before finally welcoming their first child.

“After years of IVF, it was a miracle to hold you in my arms,” she wrote.

“We’ve loved every minute of being your parents… We are so proud of you.”

Amanda has previously spoken openly about her fertility journey, revealing in her memoir Natural Born Keller that years of heartbreak eventually gave way to hope when doctors finally detected her baby’s heartbeat — a moment she described as one that changed their lives forever.
