Sam Neill’s Former Partner Shares Emotional Reflection After the Beloved Star’s Final Farewell

The sudden death of beloved actor Sam Neill at the age of 78 has prompted an outpouring of tributes from around the world.

Among those remembering him is Laura Tingle, the respected Australian journalist who shared several years of her life with the Jurassic Park star.

While their relationship ended in 2021, Laura has now offered a heartfelt reflection on the man she once loved—and the extraordinary resilience she witnessed long after their romance was over.

A Bond That Endured Beyond Their Relationship

Laura Tingle and Sam Neill were together from 2018 until 2021.

Although they later went their separate ways, Laura’s latest comments suggest the affection and admiration between them never truly disappeared.

Speaking on Sydney Mornings, she reflected on the immense physical toll years of illness had taken on the actor, describing a man who continued fighting despite increasingly difficult circumstances.

Watching Someone Keep Fighting

Laura revealed Neill had spent much of the past five years undergoing intensive treatment for several forms of cancer.

While his blood cancer had eventually gone into remission, she said the treatments left his body severely weakened.

“Thankfully, it had finally cleared him of the blood cancer that he had. But that left him pretty compromised in terms of his immune system.”

She added that the actor’s health had deteriorated noticeably in the final weeks of his life.

“Everybody who loved him has been willing him on from near and far, but I think it was just a bit too much to recover from one more time.”

Rather than focusing on illness itself, Laura’s words painted the picture of a man whose determination never faded, even as his body became increasingly exhausted.

A Family Left Heartbroken

Neill’s family announced his death in an emotional statement, saying he passed away peacefully in Sydney on 13 July, surrounded by those closest to him.

They described his passing as sudden and unexpected, while also confirming he had remained cancer-free.

No official cause of death has been announced.

His Hunt for the Wilderpeople co-star Rima Te Wiata later told The New Zealand Herald that Neill had pneumonia, although the family has not confirmed that detail.

Remembering the Man Behind the Screen Legend

To millions, Sam Neill will forever be remembered as Dr Alan Grant in Jurassic Park.

But for Laura Tingle, the memories appear far more personal.

Her reflections offered not only insight into his final chapter, but also a reminder that long after relationships end, respect, gratitude and affection can remain.

As tributes continue to pour in from around the world, her words have become one of the most intimate glimpses yet into the quiet courage that defined Sam Neill’s final years.
