Today Host Sarah Abo Welcomes First Child and Reveals Her Baby Boy’s Sweet Name
Today presenter Sarah Abo and her husband Cyrus Moran have welcomed their first child, sharing a touching first glimpse of their newborn son following an unexpectedly early arrival.
The 40-year-old journalist announced the happy news on Friday morning with a collection of intimate black-and-white hospital photographs featuring the new parents and their baby boy.
She also revealed the name they had chosen for him with a playful introduction: “Hi there, you can call me Sonny.”
An Early Arrival for Baby Sonny

Sarah explained that Sonny entered the world earlier than expected, following several weeks of close medical monitoring.
Reflecting on their first days together, she wrote that his early arrival had simply given the couple more time to admire their long-awaited son.
The presenter also expressed her gratitude to the doctors and midwives who cared for the family during their two-week hospital stay, describing the medical staff as “angels” who had made the hospital feel like home.
Among the photographs was a light-hearted family moment showing Sarah and Cyrus cuddling Sonny while watching football on a laptop. Their newborn was wrapped in a Sydney Swans scarf, offering an early indication of where his sporting loyalties may lie.

Sarah Introduces Sonny to Today Viewers

Shortly after announcing his arrival online, Sarah appeared by video call on Today to introduce Sonny to viewers and her colleagues.
Sylvia Jeffreys welcomed her as a surprise guest while the wider breakfast television team gathered in the studio to celebrate the family’s news.
A smiling Sarah joked that Sonny had been in a slightly unsettled mood before being fed, but was now relaxed and doing well.
The appearance marked a joyful return to the program after Sarah had been required to begin maternity leave earlier than planned.

Pregnancy Complications Changed Her Final Weeks on Air
Earlier in the month, Sarah revealed that she had developed high blood pressure and had been making repeated hospital visits under medical supervision.
Doctors advised her to remain on bed rest while they closely monitored both her condition and her baby’s wellbeing.
Although Sarah had hoped to return to Today before officially beginning maternity leave, the change in circumstances meant she was unable to say goodbye to viewers and colleagues on air.
At the time, she reassured her followers that she and her baby were receiving excellent care and were both doing well.
A Long-Awaited New Chapter

Sarah first announced her pregnancy during an emotional live segment on Today in March.
During the announcement, she revealed that she and Cyrus had experienced two pregnancy losses before expecting Sonny, making the couple cautious as they prepared for the arrival of their first child.
She described their journey as difficult and said the pregnancy had been approached with “cautious optimism.”
By discussing the experience publicly, Sarah hoped to offer reassurance to other families facing similar challenges and to acknowledge that the path to parenthood is not always straightforward.
Now, after a closely monitored pregnancy and an early arrival, Sarah and Cyrus are beginning a new chapter together with their baby boy.
The couple have been married since 2012, and Sonny is their first child.
