Royal sources have claimed that King Charles is planning a trip to the United States in 2026 to celebrate the country’s 250th birthday. While the potential journey abroad has not yet been officially confirmed by the Palace, an insider has claimed that President Trump is making arrangements to host both Charles and Queen Camilla for a state visit in the spring.

Sources in both Washington DC and London have allegedly revealed that the plans being negotiated include a visit to the White House in late April for a string of historic events, on the condition that Charles’ health allows him to travel.

According to The Sun, Trump’s administration is planning a string of events to mark the 250-year anniversary of the founding of the United States, with the royal visit being a “major moment” in the run-up to the July 4 Independence Day celebrations.

The trip is likely to only go ahead if Charles’ health allows, given he is still receiving treatment for cancer. His health will be monitored closely in the weeks leading up to the planned trans-atlantic trip.

The Mirror has contacted Buckingham Palace for comment.

The rumours of the outbound state visit come just months after the monarch welcomed the US President and First Lady to the UK on a historic visit, with Trump being invited on an unprecedented second visit after being hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth in 2019.

Trump began his state visit in Windsor on September 17, where he was met by the Prince and Princess of Wales, before being treated to a flypast and an inspection of the guards alongside the King.

The US president was then treated to a state banquet inside Windsor Castle, in which Charles and Trump both delivered speeches. At the banquet, Mr Trump described being welcomed for a second state visit as the “highest honour” of his life. He also joked that he hopes it is the “last” time he is welcomed for the official tour.

The president also spoke about the relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom . He said that the term ‘special relationship’ “does not begin to do it justice”. Mr Trump also explained how the two nations share a wealth of culture including language, tradition, and ancestry.

Throughout his visit Mr Trump has praised the royals, particularly Prince William whom he described as a “good guy” and “remarkable”.

He said: “I just want to say that His Majesty has raised a remarkable son and his Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales, [is] really amazing, and I’ve gotten to know you and I think you’re going to have unbelievable success in the future.”
