Kate Ferdinand shares terrifying update with fans as Dubai hit by air strikes
Former TOWIE star Kate Ferdinand, who lives in Dubai with her husband and three of their children, has revealed they slept in the basement last night after a series of blasts
Kate Ferdinand has shared her first update with her fans after Dubai was hit by missiles and drones as Iran launched retaliatory attacks this weekend.
The 34-year-old TV personality, who is married to footballer Rio Ferdinand, 47, took to social media to reassure her fans that she and her family are all safe following a series of blasts in the Gulf states after the US and Israel attacked Iran and killed the country’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei. The former TOWIE star and her husband moved to Dubai with their children, Shae, two, Cree, five, as well as Rio’s 14-year-old daughter Tia, in August last year.
On Sunday, Kate took to Instagram to provide an update on their whereabouts after what she described as a “very scary night” in the city. She praised the UAE government for “doing an amazing job” and said that despite her nerves, she feels that they “are in very safe hands.”
She wrote on her Instagram Stories: “Thank you for all of your messages and sorry for the silence, I haven’t wanted to worry you all I just haven’t been able to find the words. We are safe.”
She continued: “The government are doing an amazing job of keeping it that way and despite my nerves I feel we are in very safe hands. We are hoping for a calmer evening tonight, last night was very scary.
“Although Cree and Shae loved it as they couldn’t believe we all got a sleepover in the basement.” She concluded: “Thank you all for your prayers, this whole experience is very eye opening & I am praying for anyone affected. Lots of love to everyone.”
It comes just days after Kate admitted that the heat in Dubai – where she and Rio first met in 2016 while on respective holidays – has caused her to have a physical reaction – and that boils have appeared on her neck. Opening up on the latest episode of her podcast Blended, which details the realities of life co-parenting in blended families, she confessed: “My skin has been so bad since I’ve lived in Dubai.”
She added: “I’ve had so many breakouts, I’ve normally got quite clear skin and I’ve been having boils under my neck. I don’t know if it’s the heat or the weather, I’m very insecure about it.”
Previously, the TV star had opened up about the tougher aspects of the family’s life-changing move, admitting that it’s amazing for the children and their are “thriving” and loving having more “outdoor freedom”. But she also revealed, emotionally: “I am enjoying it, but I miss home quite a lot. I can’t talk about it because I get upset.”
The blended family includes the three children who live with them in Dubai and Rio’s eldest sons, Lorenz and Tate, who have remained in the UK so they can focus on their promising football careers. Rio had children Tia, Lorenz and Tate with his late wife, Rebecca Ellison, who died from cancer aged 34 in 2015.
Kate has admitted that being so far from her stepsons has added to her struggles, saying: “I miss the big boys a lot and I’m just struggling with that. I know this decision is right for my younger children and as a family we are settled there, but the boys are following their football careers.
“So they’re doing what they want to do otherwise they’d be with us. But it’s very hard because we’ve been through so much as a family and we’ve always been together and that’s a huge adjustment.”
