“I Just Collapsed”: Sara Cox Left in Shock as She Learns the Jaw-Dropping Final Total Raised After Battling 135 Miles of Storms, Pain and a Challenge She Says Was ‘Unlike Anything I’ve Ever Known’

Sara Cox collapsed in shock as she discovered the final amount she had raised for Children In Need after enduring 135 miles of relentless storms and pain that she described as “unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in my life — but worth every second”

Children In Need 2025 became a night defined by grit, emotion, and one woman’s unimaginable endurance — Sara Cox.

The Radio 2 presenter, 50, stole the entire telethon as she staggered onto the stage after completing her brutal five-day, 135-mile challenge through storms, freezing rain, and leg-splitting pain. Moments later, she collapsed into stunned disbelief when host Paddy McGuinness revealed her final fundraising total: £9,523,028.

Hand covering her mouth, shaking through exhaustion, Sara struggled to speak before finally gasping out her gratitude. She told the nation that the challenge had pushed her far beyond her limits, saying she endured pain “unlike anything I’ve ever experienced in my life — but worth every second”.

Her raw vulnerability, courage, and determination transformed the studio atmosphere. The audience erupted, many wiping away tears.

Prince William himself had recorded a heartfelt video message praising Sara’s resilience and urging her to keep going, telling her the nation was “so proud” as she approached the finish.

Even after receiving medical support and barely able to stand, Sara insisted on thanking the donors who lifted her to the finish line. “There’s a lot of bad things going on in the world,” she said, “but Children In Need reminds you there is more good.”

While Sara’s emotional moment became the heart of the telethon, the night also featured standout performances — including an unexpectedly moving father-son duet from Tom Fletcher and his 11-year-old son Buzz. Their rendition of Thread of Hope left viewers “sobbing”, with Buzz saying it felt “absolutely incredible” to perform with his dad.

Lewis Capaldi debuted his new single The Day That I Die, EastEnders aired a hilariously chaotic mini-Kat Slater sketch, and Strictly’s Neil Jones bravely returned to the stage just one day after announcing the death of his father.

Rochelle Humes stunned in a strapless burgundy gown as hosts Vernon Kay, Paddy McGuinness, Mel Giedroyc, Lenny Rush and Big Zuu kept the energy high.

But when the final total flashed across the screen — a record-shattering £45 million — it was clear whose spirit defined the night:

Sara Cox, the woman who ran through storms, pain, and fear… and somehow turned it into hope.
