Manchester United legend didn’t hold back with his views
MO SALAH is “destroying” his Liverpool legacy, according to Wayne Rooney.
Salah claimed he has been “thrown under the bus” by Anfield chiefs and has no relationship with boss Arne Slot after being benched for three games in a row.
But Rooney launched a scathing attack on “arrogant” Salah following his outburst after the 3-3 draw at Leeds.
Rooney said on the Wayne Rooney Show: “Salah is absolutely destroying his legacy at Liverpool. It would be sad for him to throw it all away. He’s gone about it all wrong.
“Time catches up with all of us, and this season he hasn’t looked at his best, at his sharpest. You want to see him roll his sleeves up and say ‘ok then, I’ll show you’.
“To have the arrogance to say he doesn’t have to earn his place because he has already earned his place, you need to be at your best every week to try and stay in the team.
“If I was one of his team-mates, I wouldn’t be happy at all with what he said because this is where Liverpool need him most.
“If anything, he has thrown Liverpool under the bus with his words.
“He’s been absolutely incredible for Liverpool, but this was disrespectful to his teammates, manager and fans.”
Salah is set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations where he will play for Egypt on December 15 but he hinted the Brighton home game on Saturday could be his last for the club.
The forward has scored 250 goals in 420 club appearances since joining Liverpool from Roma in 2017.
Salah, who netted 29 Prem goals last season to lead the Reds to a 20th title, signed a contract extension earlier this year.
But the 33-year-old forward has only scored five times in all competitions in the current campaign.
Manchester United legend Rooney added: “Take yourself off to Afcon and let everything calm down. If I was him there would be no way he would be in the team.”
Salah said in his bombshell interview at Elland Road: “It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. It is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.
“I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager, and all of a sudden we don’t have any relationship.
“It is not acceptable for me. I don’t know why this is happening to me. I don’t get it.”
He also claimed Liverpool had broken promises to him since he signed a new deal with the club in April.
Salah was Liverpool’s go-to man last season as he netted 29 Premier League goals to guide the Reds to the title.
There was speculation he could depart this summer but he signed a new deal in April – though he’s only managed four goals in this campaign since.
Rooney believes Salah is now bringing a “negative energy” to the team and urged Slot to continue dropping him over his attitude.

The Manchester United legend added: “I would imagine he will be very quiet around the training ground and that will bring a negative energy in itself to the new players Arne has bedded in.
“I am sure over the next couple of years he will regret saying what he has.
“Arne Slot has to show his authority and pull him in and say ‘you are not travelling with the team, what you said is not acceptable’.
“Take yourself off to Afcon and let everything calm down. If I was him there would be no way he would be in the team.”
Salah suggested Liverpool’s next home game against Brighton could be his last game for the club before he flies out for AFCON with Egypt.
