Irish designer Paul Costelloe, 80, who dressed Princess Diana dies in UK after short illness as family ‘deeply saddened’
The designer was surrounded by his wife and seven children and passed peacefully in London

TRIBUTES have flooded in for Irish fashion designer Paul Costelloe who has died following a short illness at the age of 80.
The fashion icon was known and loved for his collections showcased in London Fashion Week for over 35 years.
The Irish designer also released his Living Studio collection in Dunnes Stores across the country.
His family said they are “deeply saddened to announce the passing of Paul Costelloe following a short illness”.
The statement added: “He was surrounded by his wife and seven children and passed peacefully in London.”
Mr Costelloe recently showcased his Ready to Wear Spring/Summer 2026 collection as part of London Fashion Week this September.
He famously dressed Diana Princess of Wales and was an ambassador for the Jack and Jill Foundation.
Tanaiste Simon Harris said: “I am saddened to learn today of the passing of Paul Costelloe, the renowned Irish fashion designer.
“Paul led a remarkable life as a leading figure in Irish, UK and international fashion and business for decades.
“He built a hugely successful business through incredible talent, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to quality.
“His eponymous fashion house has built an extraordinary legacy that will live on.”
The Tanaiste said that Mr Costelloe was and is a quite “remarkable Irish success story”.
Mr Harris continued: “His collaborations, including his memorable work with Princess Diana and long relationship with Dunnes Stores, reflected not just his skill but his abiding pride in his Irish roots which often inspired his craftsmanship.
“He leaves behind a body of work that shaped modern Irish fashion and will continue to shape it in the years to come.
“He will be greatly missed and warmly remembered.”
‘TIMELESS DESIGNS’
Irish Parliament Official Darragh Bohan said: “Sad to hear the news of Irish fashion icon Paul Costelloe’s passing.
“His timeless designs and creativity left an indelible mark on Irish style and the global fashion scene.
“He never shy’d away from an opinion but was a true gentleman.”
Irish designer Edel MacBride said: “Deeply saddened to hear Paul Costelloe has died after a short illness.
“Since meeting him as the external examiner 40 years ago in Limerick, working with him on men’s and ladies collections knitwear I blame him for everything. Adieu Maestro and gentleman.”
Another mourner shared: “I had the privilege of meeting this lovely man before he became famous when starting in the fashion scene.
“I was very young and very impressed with him. May he Rest in Peace.”
Mr Costelloe lived in London for over 20 years, but always insisted he was “100 per cent Irish”.
