Heartbreaking new details revealed at inquest after three sisters drowned in sea off Brighton in triple family tragedy
THREE sisters who drowned in Brighton were identified by their heartbroken dad following the triple tragedy, an inquest heard.
Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31, were tragically pulled from the water on May 13.
It is feared the women were “suddenly dragged into danger after misjudging the shingle shelf” close to the water’s edge.
The triple tragedy came 16 years after their mum Janice, 43, was also found drowned after disappearing in Birmingham.
An inquest heard today how Rebecca’s body washed up on the shore while Christina and Jane were found in the water by the RNLI.
All three siblings were formally identified by their heartbroken dad, the court was told.
The provisional cause of death for the women is yet to be ascertained.
Senior coroner Penelope Schofield confirmed police believe there is no third party involvement in the sisters’ deaths.
She added: “I hope this will stop the social media speculation around the circumstances of their deaths.”
It was heard the sisters lived at the same address in Greenford, West London, and their occupations were unknown.
The coroner also offered her condolences to dad Joseph, who watched the proceedings via videolink.
She said the loss of his daughters must be “unbearable” and adjourned the inquest until October 8.
A frantic search was launched at 5.45am after reports of a person in the water near Brighton.
Emergency services were called to the beach near Black Rock car park off Madeira Drive.
Police later confirmed three women had been pulled from the water.
Officers are probing a number of lines of enquiry with the investigation ongoing.
Sussex Police said there is currently no evidence to suggest third-party involvement or criminality.
The sisters’ dad Joseph said “no words can truly describe the pain” of losing his family after the triple tragedy.
He also described the girls as his “joy and strength” in a moving tribute after they died.
Joseph added: “The tragedy of losing all three of you has left an emptiness that words cannot heal.”
“Today, with a heart full of sorrow and love, I pay tribute to my beloved daughters — Jane, Christina, and Becky — whose lives ended so tragically far too soon.”
His wife Genevieve Barnaby described them as “the most beautiful girls [who] didn’t give us no trouble”.
She posted a tribute to her stepchildren, saying: “Our hearts are broken. The pain is indescribable.”
