‘what a privilege’
‘I was in tears reading it to him’ – Gabby Logan bravely reveals final moments with football legend dad Terry Yorath
GABBY LOGAN has opened up on one of the final conversations she had with dad Terry Yorath.
The former Wales international and manager died in March aged 75 after battling illness, leaving BBC presenter Logan and the family devastated.
Match of the Day and TV favourite Logan, 53, had to leave the show midway through an episode to deal with the emergency.
And she has now revealed another part of what Yorath and her spoke about at hospital on the day he passed away.
Talking to the Hello Magazine podcast, she described how heartfelt messages from fans had made them both cry.
One in particular hit them hard, and Logan explained: “I was in tears reading it to him and he died that night.
“I’d sat and had that really incredible conversation with him, read him that email.
“I thought kind of in the aftermath, what a privilege to be able to do that for him.
“To give him that confidence, that you know this is what people are going to say about you.
“I said to him: ‘I know I’m going to get more like this.’
“And sure enough they flooded in.”
Logan, who has also described talking about food plans for when ex-Leeds man Yorath would return home, added: “To have all these stories be told to me and sent to me for just a few weeks, kind of an outpouring was incredible.
“You know, your dad is one thing to you and then to all these other people he was something else.
“I think sport is really amazing in these moments, football was incredible and comforting.
“As a family we took a lot of comfort from that.
“I was so proud of him, and to hear what kind of person he was when you weren’t looking, its not about the show, it’s what does somebody do quietly that nobody knows about.”
Logan said that Yorath had been preparing to leave hospital a day later only for him to die that night.
She is set to front coverage of the 2026 World Cup this summer with potential history to be made at the final on July 19.
Star host Logan returned to work barely two weeks after her dad’s death.
