EXCLUSIVE: Truth behind Tess and Vernon’s split night and emotional toast that sealed the deal
Vernon Kay and Tess Daly were together when they broke the news of their split publicly, calling time on their 22 year marriage
Vernon Kay and Tessa Daly made a toast to their new lives apart on the night they confirmed their marriage was over, as the Mirror reveals new details about their split.
The couple have vowed to ‘keep it classy’ when it comes to their separation and were even sat together when they hit publish on their joint statement that left fans stunned.
During an emotional Friday night at their home -where they are still living together – the couple drank champagne and “celebrated the new chapter ahead.”
A source close to the couple said: “After they released the statement, Vernon and Tess made a toast and they also toasted each other and their futures.
“They only want the best for each other and their family. There has been no big fallout, more a gradual growing apart and wanting different things. They have vowed to stay friends and to keep things classy when it comes to the split and any future interviews they give. They only want the best for each other.”
The pair are said to be both in a good place despite the shock news and are wanting to focus on their girls and their independent careers.
The couple are still living together in their six-bedroom family home in Buckinghamshire. In time Vernon is expected to be the more likely one to move out, as he ideally needs a London base or somewhere close by for hosting his BBC Radio 2 show.
Insiders pointed to the fact the pair hosted The One Show at the end of February as proof they still get on well. There were no signs on screen of any issues between the pair. Tess even shared a selfie of them outside Television Studios to Instagram and wrote: “Back where it all began at television Centre. Always brings back such lovely memories.”
They also enjoyed a family holiday to the Caribbean just two weeks before announcing their break-up. Despite the show of solidarity, the pair confirmed this weekend that their marriage was over.
In a statement posted on their Instagram Stories, Tess and Vernon – who have daughters Phoebe, 21, and Amber, 16 – said: “After much consideration, and with a deep sense of care and respect for one another, we have made the decision to separate amicably.
“This has not been an easy decision, but it comes from a place of mutual understanding and a shared desire for what is best for both of us. We remain great friends and most importantly, fully committed to our roles as loving and supportive parents, which will always be our priority.
“There are no other parties involved in this decision. We kindly ask for privacy during this time as we navigate this transition together. We will not be making any further public comments.”
