MANCHESTER UNITED manager Ruben Amorim and Diogo Dalot are related.

The Portuguese ancestral website Geneall stated that the duo are great-great-grandsons of Carlos Dallot, a 19th century circus artist.

United sources have confirmed the distant relation between Portuguese pair Amorim and Dalot, who has started in 39 of Amorim’s 54 matches in charge of United.

Carlos Dallot was born in France and, along with his siblings Jose and Julia, toured Europe before settling in Portugal, where they continued to perform.

Dalot, 26, has previously confirmed that his surname has French origins and that the circus performers permanently relocated to Braga, where Dalot was born.

Portugal international Dalot joined Porto’s academy at the age of nine and he signed for United in 2018 for £19million.

Amorim, 40, was born in Lisbon and spent the majority of his playing career in the Portugal capital with Belenenses and Benfica but moved to Braga on loan in 2012, when he played against United in the Champions League.

Right back Dalot switched to the left wing for the start of United’s four-game unbeaten run against Sunderland last month.

However, he was the first player to be substituted with the team 2-1 down at Nottingham Forest on Saturday before Amad equalised late on to earn a 2-2 draw.

Amorim admitted Dalot was crowded out at the City Ground: “If you see Dalot, many times Dalot has the ball with space to make the cross, but he’s a right footer, he’s always inside without space.

“The only [alternative] is Patrick (Dorgu), you are going to do the same thing. When you have the ball, go to the side and cross, the space is there.

“Because if you want to come inside Cunha is always there to receive the ball.”

Dalot has made a total of 219 appearances for the Red Devils during his eight years at Old Trafford, scoring nine times.

He has played nine games in total this season after suffering a muscle injury that kept him out for around three weeks.

Dalot’s under par display against Forest came after United failed to help a sorry United fan who was growing out his hair until the team secured five straight wins.

The Portugal international had previously responded to the story when asked by an interviewer about the challenge.

He told DAZN after their 2-1 win at Liverpool: “Let’ see… We hope that we can give him that haircut.

“But we have to go game by game. Obviously, we know this is a very difficult league, we have tough games.”

United would go on to beat Brighton 4-2 in their next game to make it three straight wins, but ended the streak with their draw at Forest.
