Wally Lewis Shares Precious Family Moment at Niece’s Wedding Amid Ongoing Rift With His Children

Wally Lewis has enjoyed a heartwarming weekend surrounded by loved ones at a family wedding, shortly after speaking emotionally about his strained relationship with his three adult children.

The 66-year-old rugby league legend attended the wedding of his niece, Amber Lewis, and Jack Dwyer in Montville, a picturesque town near Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

Lewis shared several photographs from the occasion on social media, including images of himself alongside his wife, Lynda, and other family members.

Reflecting on the celebration, the former Brisbane Broncos and State of Origin star described it as a particularly meaningful weekend.

“What a great pleasure it was to see my beautiful niece Amber Lewis marry Jack Dwyer last weekend in Montville,” he wrote.

“It was a very special weekend for all. Congratulations again, guys.”

The joyful family gathering came less than a year after Lewis and Lynda celebrated their own wedding in Brisbane in April 2025.

However, Lewis’s three children — Mitch, Lincoln and Jamie-Lee — reportedly did not attend that ceremony, reflecting the continuing distance between them and their father.

Lewis recently made rare and deeply emotional comments about the breakdown of his relationship with his children following the end of his 36-year marriage to their mother, Jacqui.

Speaking about the situation, the man affectionately known to rugby league fans as “The King” appeared close to tears as he acknowledged the pain caused by the separation.

“I had a bit of a tough time in my life and sad departure from my family,” he said.

Lewis admitted he was deeply saddened by how little time he now spends with his children and apologised for the impact the family breakdown had on them.

“They are three wonderful kids and I’m very sorry it affected them,” he said, adding that he remained proud of them and the support they continued to give their mother.

The comments marked an unusual moment of openness from Lewis, who has largely avoided discussing the private family dispute publicly.

A Hope to Rebuild Family Ties

Lewis and Jacqui’s separation was publicly confirmed through Channel Nine in February 2021.

At the time, the former footballer acknowledged that the end of the marriage had been a difficult and painful experience for everyone involved.

He expressed hope that the family might eventually rebuild its relationships and move forward, while also confirming that he had entered a new relationship.

Lewis married Jacqui in November 1984. He has previously spoken warmly about the support she provided during some of the most challenging periods of his life, including his battle with epilepsy.

Jacqui stood beside him after he suffered a seizure while presenting the sports news live on television, an incident that eventually led to his diagnosis.

While the public distance between Lewis and his children appears to remain, his niece’s wedding offered the rugby league icon a precious opportunity to celebrate an important family milestone surrounded by those closest to him.
