Huge blaze erupts at historic golf club in Essex as smoke billows through air and fire crews battle flames
Six fire crews are currently tackling the flames
A BLAZE has ripped through a 19th century golf club sparking a huge emergency response.
Firefighters were scrambled to the West Essex Golf Club near the M25 earlier today after the historic building erupted into flames.
Six fire crews and some 40 firefighters are currently at the scene of the fire, which started at around 3pm.
Crews from Harlow, Rayleigh Weir, Loughton, Chelmsford, Grays and Corringham all rushed to respond as pillars of black smoke billowed into the sky.
Pictures from the scene show the entire building engulfed with bright orange flames pouring from the roof and windows.
Thankfully, fire crews have confirmed that no one was injured in the inferno.
The fire service is urging people to avoid the area as they work to tackle the flames.
A cordon has been put in place around the historic golf club as emergency services work to bring the situation under control.
An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “When the first fire crews arrived, they confirmed everyone was accounted for and no one was injured.
“Additional fire engines were requested to support.”
