Tragedy struck over the Australia Day long weekend, with three people killed in two separate incidents, including two fisherman on the NSW south coast and a swimmer in Western Australia.
Police and emergency services were called about 3pm on Monday to a popular beach in the northern suburbs of Perth, with reports of swimmers in distress.
It is believed the men were caught in a powerful rip at Mettams Pool.
A 40-year-old man and a 33-year-old man were pulled out of the water and provided emergency first aid at the scene.
The older male died a short time later in hospital.

WA Police are investigating the sudden death incident and report will be prepared for the coroner.
On the eastern coast, police initially received a missing persons report about 4pm on Monday after two rock fishermen who had travelled from Southern Sydney to the South Coast failed to return home.
The body of a 53-year-old man was found on the rocky shoreline off Black Head Reserve in Gerroa on Sunday evening.
Two days later, the body of a 59-year-old man was found about 2.45pm north of the Black Head Reserve.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
