MasterChef Australia Favourite Pat McGarry Opens Up After Emotional Exit — As Life Brings Him an Even Greater Reward

A heartbreaking end to Pat McGarry’s MasterChef dream

Pat McGarry may have fallen short of the MasterChef Australia 2026 title, but the beloved contestant says he leaves the competition with no regrets — and returns home to the role that matters most: being a father of two.

The 36-year-old council worker was eliminated during one of the season’s toughest Black Apron challenges, bringing an emotional end to a journey that had made him one of the competition’s most popular contestants.

As the final challenge of Heat Week unfolded, Pat faced Aaron Kher, Vinnie Gibaldi and Luke Harris in a high-pressure elimination. Fate dealt Pat and Aaron the flambé token, forcing them into a dramatic head-to-head cook-off centred around cooking with flames, while Vinnie and Luke tackled a separate smoke-themed challenge.

Although devastated to leave, Pat admitted he never expected his time in the kitchen to end so soon.

“I honestly felt like I still had a lot more to show and plenty more dishes I wanted to cook,” he said.

“But that’s what makes MasterChef so tough — it only takes one cook that’s not quite there and your journey’s over.”

The challenge that changed everything

Looking back, Pat believes drawing the flambé token ultimately proved to be his downfall.

He admitted flambé cooking wasn’t a technique he felt naturally comfortable with and struggled to make the fire element the true hero of his dish.

Pat also felt the smoke challenge offered Vinnie and Luke greater creative freedom, allowing them more opportunities to showcase their cooking.

Still, he accepted that luck is simply part of the competition.

“Everyone gets dealt a different hand in MasterChef, so you’ve just got to make the most of what you get.”

A life-changing moment away from the cameras

While his MasterChef journey has ended, Pat’s biggest milestone happened away from television.

Just days ago, he and his fiancée Emma welcomed their second daughter, Stevie Anne McGarry, expanding their family from three to four.

The couple, who have been together since 2013, first became parents with the birth of daughter Frankie in 2024. On July 4, 2026, baby Stevie arrived weighing 9.2 pounds after being born 15 days overdue.

For Pat, life has quickly become a whirlwind.

“It’s been amazing, but definitely a bit of organised chaos,” he admitted.

“Between a newborn, a toddler, trying to keep up with social media and occasionally remembering to eat myself, life is pretty full.”

Despite the sleepless nights, he wouldn’t change a thing.

“We’re tired, but it’s the best kind of tired.”

Baby Stevie already has the family wrapped around her finger

Pat says their newborn daughter has settled into family life beautifully.

After arriving later than expected, Stevie is healthy, feeding well and already stealing everyone’s hearts.

“She’s healthy, feeding well and already has us completely wrapped around her little finger,” Pat shared.

“We couldn’t be happier.”

Second-time parents with a new perspective

Having already experienced parenthood once before, Pat and Emma say welcoming a second child has been a much calmer experience.

Unlike the uncertainty they felt with their first baby, the couple now trust their instincts far more.

However, Pat admits life with both a toddler and a newborn means peace and quiet has become a rare luxury.

He also praised Emma for everything she’s done during the transition, saying they’ve been making the most of every precious moment together because they know how quickly children grow.

Big sister Frankie is embracing her new role

Perhaps the sweetest part of their growing family has been watching two-year-old Frankie step into her role as a big sister.

According to Pat, Frankie has embraced the responsibility with remarkable enthusiasm.

She loves cuddling Stevie, constantly checks on her and proudly tells everyone that Stevie is her little sister.

Watching the bond between his daughters begin to form has become one of the most emotional moments for the family.

Could Pat return to the MasterChef kitchen?

Although his first MasterChef journey has come to an end, Pat isn’t ruling out another shot at the trophy.

Asked whether he would compete in a future MasterChef: Back To Win season, his answer came without hesitation.

“Without a doubt. If they called, I’d say yes in a heartbeat.”

Since filming wrapped, Pat believes he has become a far stronger cook and would love the opportunity to prove just how much he has improved.

He even joked that he’d happily sneak a few more potato dishes onto the menu.

More importantly, Pat believes he could genuinely compete for the title if given another opportunity.

“I’d definitely believe I could,” he said.

“Everyone who comes back would be an incredible cook, so nothing’s guaranteed, but I’d be walking in with a lot more confidence and experience.

“I know my food better now and I’d love the chance to show how much I’ve grown.”

A dream paused, but a new chapter already underway

Pat McGarry’s MasterChef journey may have ended sooner than he hoped, but life has offered him something even more meaningful.

While the trophy slipped away, he returns home to a growing family, two daughters who have transformed his world, and the confidence that his culinary journey is only just beginning.

For one of this season’s most beloved contestants, the kitchen door may have closed for now — but few would be surprised to see Pat walk back through it one day, stronger than ever.
