Sarah Abo Reveals Why She Won’t Return to Today for an On-Air Farewell as Pregnancy Health Complications Force Early Exit
Sarah Abo Confirms Early Departure From Today
Sarah Abo has confirmed she will not be returning to Today before beginning maternity leave after experiencing pregnancy-related health complications.
The 39-year-old presenter, who is expecting her first child, has been absent from the breakfast program since signing off last week. While she had hoped to return for a final on-air farewell, doctors have advised her to prioritise rest.

Hospital Visits After High Blood Pressure Scare
In an emotional Instagram post on Wednesday, Abo revealed she had been dealing with high blood pressure and had spent time in and out of hospital.
“Copped a bit of a curveball last week with high blood pressure and have been in and out of hospital since,” she wrote alongside photos taken from her hospital room.
Despite the unexpected setback, Abo reassured followers that both she and her unborn baby are doing well.
“Thankfully I’m in the safe hands of magnificent doctors, nurses and midwives taking incredibly good care of bub and me and we are both well. They have ordered rest as they monitor me though.”
The health update confirmed she will not be returning to Today before welcoming her baby.
Heartfelt Thanks to Family and Viewers
Abo also expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received since stepping away from the program.
She said she had been touched by the many messages, cards and gifts sent by viewers, adding that the kindness shown to her growing family meant more than words could express.
“I seriously pinch myself when I think about how many good people there are out there. So special.”
She also paid tribute to her husband, Cyrus Moran, thanking him for remaining by her side throughout the challenging period.
Describing him as her “rock”, she joked that even football stars Harry Kane and Lionel Messi “ain’t got nothing on this guy.”
Although she may not be able to reply to everyone personally straight away, Abo said she is deeply grateful for every message of support.
She ended her post with a reminder for everyone to prioritise their health, writing: “A reminder to make sure you look after yourself — pregnant or not!”

Doctors Rule Out a Final Farewell
Earlier on Wednesday, stand-in Today hosts Sylvia Jeffreys and Charles Croucher told viewers that Abo would not be returning to the program before maternity leave.
Croucher explained that the team had hoped to welcome her back for an official farewell, but doctors had instructed her to rest instead.
“We were looking forward to saying goodbye to her, but doctors’ orders mean that that’s not possible right now,” he said.
Jeffreys added that Abo had been reading the messages sent in by viewers and wanted everyone to know how much their support had meant to her.
Departure Comes During a Challenging Period for Today
Abo’s early departure comes as Today continues to navigate a period of significant change.
The program has recently undergone major on-air changes following Karl Stefanovic’s exit, while reports have suggested Channel Nine is considering broader changes to the breakfast show’s format and presenting team as it looks to strengthen its position against rival Sunrise.
Media reports have also speculated about potential changes to production and on-air roles ahead of a possible relaunch in 2027. However, Channel Nine has not officially confirmed those reported plans.
For now, Abo’s focus remains firmly on her health and the arrival of her first child, with colleagues and viewers continuing to send their support as she begins the final weeks of her pregnancy.
