Bec Daniher Welcomes Baby Boy Ted Neale in Touching Tribute to Late Father

Bec Daniher has celebrated the arrival of her third child while honouring the memory of her late father, AFL legend and motor neurone disease campaigner Neale Daniher.
Bec and her partner, Drew Howell, welcomed their baby boy on June 26 but initially kept his name private. On Monday, she shared the joyful news on Instagram, revealing that they had named him Ted Neale Daniher-Howell.
The middle name serves as a deeply personal tribute to Neale, who passed away in May following a courageous 13-year battle with motor neurone disease.
A Precious New Addition to the Family

Bec shared three photographs of her newborn son, including a heartwarming image of Ted alongside his older sisters, Billie and Hazel.
The announcement was quickly met with messages of love and congratulations from friends, sporting personalities and television figures.
Channel 7 commentator Abbey Holmes described Ted as “the most perfect little boy” and praised his beautiful name, while Abbey Gelmi welcomed him into the world and congratulated Bec.
Australian swimming champion Ariarne Titmus also shared her support, writing: “He is beautiful, congratulations.”
A Name Filled With Love and Meaning
Ted’s arrival came only weeks after Neale was farewelled at a moving state funeral attended by his family, friends and members of the Australian sporting community.
Bec, who had worked closely beside her father throughout his tireless campaign to raise awareness and funds for MND research, delivered an emotional tribute during the service.
She reflected on the 35 years she had shared with him and described Neale not only as her father, but also as her mentor, coach and confidant.
Bec said that although MND had completely changed the foundations of their family, the difficult journey had also brought them closer together.
She also recalled one of the most important lessons Neale gave her when she began speaking publicly on his behalf as his voice weakened: to remain authentic, trust herself and never try to become somebody else.
The Grandson Neale Had Hoped to Meet
One of the most emotional moments of Bec’s tribute came when she spoke about the baby boy she was preparing to welcome.
Through tears, she acknowledged how much her father had wanted to meet his grandson.
“I know you wanted to meet him, but he’ll have your spirit and laugh,” she said.
Ted arrived soon afterwards, carrying Neale’s name and ensuring that a meaningful part of his grandfather’s legacy will continue through a new generation.
For the Daniher family, the announcement represents both a moment of immense joy and a touching reminder that the people we love can continue to live on through the values, memories and names passed down within a family.
