Rival Network’s Cryptic Message About Karl Stefanovic Fuels Fresh Speculation After His Today Exit

‘Wake Up With a Stefanovic’: Sky News Fuels Speculation After Karl’s Today Departure\

Karl Stefanovic may have left Channel Nine, but a cheeky new promotion from Sky News Australia has sparked fresh speculation about where the veteran television presenter could appear next.

Following Karl’s departure from Today at the end of June, rumours have continued to swirl about whether the Gold Logie winner could soon join a rival television network.

Sky News Teases Viewers With Stefanovic Message

The speculation intensified after Sky News released a playful promotional video featuring the line:

“The only way to wake up with a Stefanovic… is to watch Sky News Australia.”

At first glance, many viewers believed the network might be hinting at a possible move for Karl. However, the campaign was actually referring to his younger brother, Peter Stefanovic, who currently works as a presenter for Sky News.

Peter shared the video on Instagram with nothing more than a winking emoji, seemingly knowing the post would quickly get people talking.

Followers praised the promotion as “cheeky” and “so good”, while Peter’s wife and Today Extra host Sylvia Jeffreys responded with a laughing emoji.

The post also attracted attention because Peter had previously remained publicly silent about his brother’s exit from Nine, where Peter himself once worked as a presenter.

Karl’s Nine Career Comes to an Abrupt End

Karl’s long-running relationship with Channel Nine ended following controversy surrounding an episode of The Karl Stefanovic Show.

The vodcast episode featured an interview with British far-right activist Tommy Robinson and was removed from YouTube shortly after being published.

After leaving the network, Karl declared that he was now “free of the network” and has continued speaking openly about the state of Australian television.

During a conversation with British broadcaster Piers Morgan, Karl criticised television executives for choosing what he described as “beige personalities” because of concerns about advertisers and public backlash.

“If the product is becoming so beige because they’re so worried about blowback from advertisers or whoever this mob is, you end up on air with beige personalities,” he said.

Although Karl did not name any individuals, his remarks prompted speculation that he may have been referring to personalities currently working in breakfast television.

However, he made a point of praising his former Today co-host and close friend Sarah Abo.

Karl Says He Had Already Planned to Leave

Karl also claimed that he had informed Nine months earlier that he intended to leave when his contract expired at the end of the year.

Instead, his time at the network ended in the middle of the year, bringing his latest chapter with Today to an unexpectedly sudden conclusion.

With Karl now operating independently and continuing to build his vodcast, questions remain about whether he will return to a major television network.

Sky News’ playful “wake up with a Stefanovic” campaign may have been centred on Peter, but its timing has ensured that speculation surrounding Karl’s next move is unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
