Fresh reports fuel speculation over breakfast TV future
Fresh speculation has emerged suggesting Robert Irwin could be in the mix to become the next co-host of Today, although neither the television presenter nor the Nine Network has confirmed the reports.
The rumours come as Nine continues its search for a new on-air partner for Sarah Abo following Karl Stefanovic’s departure.
According to New Idea, unnamed industry insiders have claimed network executives are eager to secure the 22-year-old wildlife conservationist and television personality for the high-profile breakfast television role.
Claims Nine is eager to secure the rising television star
The publication reported that Nine is keen to bring Irwin into its line-up, with one unnamed source alleging the network is prepared to do whatever it takes to convince him to join the program.
Those claims remain unverified, and no official announcement has been made regarding the position.
A number of experienced Nine personalities have already been linked to the vacancy, including Tom Steinfort, James Bracey, Charles Croucher, Clint Stanaway and David Campbell.
However, the report suggested those names may simply be part of the broader speculation while discussions continue behind the scenes.

Adding further intrigue, the magazine pointed to the fact that the official Today Instagram account follows only a limited number of profiles — with Robert Irwin among them.
An unnamed source claimed that details like this often attract attention within the television industry, suggesting it could either be a coincidence or an early indication of future plans.
While the social media connection has fuelled discussion online, it does not confirm that any negotiations are taking place.
Robert Irwin’s television career continues to soar
The speculation comes at a time when Irwin’s career is reaching new heights both in Australia and internationally.
Since Network 10 paused production of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, which he has co-hosted with Julia Morris since 2024, questions have continued about what project he may take on next.
His profile has expanded significantly in recent years through television, wildlife conservation and major commercial partnerships.

Regardless of whether the Today reports eventuate, Irwin already has several major projects on his schedule.
He is set to host next month’s Logie Awards on Seven and is also involved in Disney’s US version of Dancing with the Stars.
The conservationist has also fronted national advertising campaigns and recently reunited with Prince William in London as part of promotional activities for the Earthshot Prize.
