BRITISH comedian Luisa Omielan has revealed she suffered a brain injury as she shared a new health update.
The stand-up comic, 43, said she had also been diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome and PTSD following the injury.
Luisa said she had been rushed to A&E three times and admitted it had “knocked her sideways”.
The star wrote: “Hello everyone, just wanted to give an update.
“Everything is going to be fine, but I have had a minor brain injury and have been diagnosed with Post Concussion Syndrome and PTSD.”
Luisa said her beloved Bernese Mountain dog Bernie is also having health issues.
“My sweet Bernie is also having some health issues at the moment because we are twins and do everything together,” she continued.
“She has been an absolute trooper and I am very lucky to have her and love her so much.
“One of the trickiest things is keeping going when life knocks you sideways. It’s just going to take a little time.
“These past few weeks have been incredibly challenging, but I’m grateful that there’s a clear path forward now. I just need to focus on recovery.
“I’m also very lucky to have my wonderful sister, who’s been gently pushing me through exposure therapy and encouraging me to try things again, one step at a time.”
The BBC star said she is taking a step back from her live shows after being forced to cancel upcoming gigs while she recover.
She continued: “A huge shout-out to the kindness of strangers. With everything that’s happened over the last four weeks, every time I’ve needed help, someone has stepped in.
“It has genuinely restored my faith in people. If you ever wonder whether to offer someone a hand, I’d always rather someone ask than walk past.
“I’m not creating much content right now or able to work. Many of you have asked how you can support me while I recover. If you’d like to, my Patreon has been a life line, it is my only income until I’m well enough to plan and deliver shows.
“I am so grateful to my gang for helping me though this time.
“Thank you all for the love and kindness, sorry to the audiences and venues I have had to cancel, I am gutted and want to come back ASAP.
“Big love.”
Just last week, Luisa said she had rushed to hospital three times.
“Back to A&E for a 3rd time. Got to be a plant for a bit longer. Concussion is no joke.
“Massive love to all the staff, nurses and Dr’s I came across, the neighbours and strangers who have helped. Stay safe in the heat.”
Luisa is an award-winning stand-up comedian and actress.
She rose to global fame with her debut Edinburgh Fringe show, What Would Beyoncé Do?!
And in 2017, the BBC produced a TV version of the same show as a special on BBC Three and later BBC One.
She often tackles issues of body image and mental health.
Luisa hosted a BBC show called Politics for B*****s, six 30 minute episodes to help educate young people on socioeconomic and political issues.
