“A subtle royal fashion choice is attracting attention in the Netherlands” Princess Catharina-Amalia stepped out for a glittering state banquet alongside King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima, but it was one meaningful jewellery choice that quickly became the talking point of the evening.

Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands is starting to show a preference when it comes to her royal jewels.

The Princess of Orange joined her parents, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima, for a state banquet at the Royal Palace in Amsterdam in honor of the visiting German president, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and his wife, Elke Büdenbender, on Tuesday, June 9.

For the festivities, Catharina-Amalia, 22, wore a light blue dress with cap sleeves and a bejeweled bodice. She complemented the look with pearl drop earrings and the stunning Dutch Star Tiara.

The tiara has special significance for Catharina-Amalia as it is the first tiara she ever wore in public. In June 2022, she and other younger European royals were invited to Oslo to celebrate the 18th birthday of Princess Ingrid Alexandra of Norway.

The Dutch Star Tiara is also significant as the headpiece Maxima wore on her 2002 wedding day.

Like her fellow future monarchs, Catharina-Amalia is currently undergoing years of training and schooling to prepare her for when she takes the throne. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Politics, Psychology, Law and Economics (PPLE) from the University of Amsterdam last year, and is set to continue on at the university for two more academic years to earn a bachelor’s degree in Dutch Law.

Upon graduating with her master’s degree from Harvard last month, Princess Elisabeth gave her first major interview to Dutch journalist Wim Dehandschutter. In it, she opened up about her bond with her fellow European princesses. The article revealed that she, Catharina-Amalia and Ingrid Alexandra even share a private WhatsApp group.

“We’ve known each other for a long time and see each other occasionally at events,” Princess Elisabeth said.

“In my generation, there are several women. You see a similar shift in other monarchies,” she added. “We are all in the same situation. It’s a hurdle we will face together.”
