AN accomplished young camogie player who tragically died in a two-car collision in Tipperary yesterday has been named.

Laura Kennedy, 20, from Burgess, sadly lost her life in a road accident on the Nenagh to Dromineer Road R495 at around 9pm last night.

Laura Kennedy was due to celebrate her 21st birthday

She was the driver of one of the cars involved in the accident.

The young woman was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Her body was later taken to University Hospital Limerick (UHL) where a post-mortem examination is due to be carried out.

The coroner was notified of the death and the road was closed to allow for a technical examination to take place.

The deceased was well known in GAA circles in the area and was due to celebrate her 21st birthday in a couple of weeks.

Laura and her twin Aishling were very accomplished at sport in the area, particularly cross-country running and camogie with Burgess Duharra Camogie Club and Tipperary Development Camogie squads.

Her family are also cousins of Tipperary hurler Willie Connors from nearby Killadangan, who won an All-Ireland senior hurling medal last year when Tipperary enjoyed an emphatic victory over Cork.

Gardai are still appealing for anyone with information on the crash to come forward.

In a statement they said that “any road users, who may have camera footage (including dash-cam) and were travelling on the Nenagh to Dromineer Road R495, Co. Tipperary, between 8:15pm and 9:15pm on Tuesday 12th May 2026 are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardai”.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nenagh Garda Station on 067 50450, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
