A motorcyclist has died when his Harley Davidson slammed into a traffic light at an inner‑north Adelaide intersection.

The rider, a 40‑year‑old man from Para Hills West was killed in the crash at Park Tce and Torrens Rd about 2.30am on Friday.

Major Crash Unit detectives are investigating what led to the crash.

The intersection was closed in all directions for several hours before reopening just after 8.30am.

His death is the 32nd life lost on South Australian roads this year and the first of the Easter long weekend.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage to contact them.
