‘LIVING NIGHTMARE’
Family of ‘bubbly’ mum, 28, killed in Derry confirm funeral details as murder suspect ‘medically unfit’ for interview

THE family of a 28-year-old woman who died in Derry over the weekend have confirmed she will be laid to rest tomorrow – as cops continue their probe into her murder.
Amy Doherty was found with critical injuries at a property in the Summer Meadows Mews area shortly after 10am on Saturday morning.

The mum-of-two was rushed to hospital from the scene but sadly passed away.
A 30-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of her murder.
It is understood he fell from the Foyle Bridge that morning, triggering road closures and a multi-agency search and rescue operation, according to BBC.
He was later rescued and arrested by cops and remains in custody, but is not fit to be quizzed by officers probing the case as he receives medical treatment.
In a death notice online, Amy’s family described her as a “beloved mother” and “a much loved niece and cousin”
They added: “R.I.P. Tragically 21st March 2026.
“Beloved mother of Rhea and Ronan. Loving daughter of Patrick and Sharon. Dear sister of Shane and Ryan.
“Granddaughter of John and Patricia Doherty, and Margaret and the late Patsy Mooney. R.I.P.
“A much loved niece and cousin. Deeply regretted by all the family circle.”
Amy’s family has confirmed she will repose at her family home today from 10am.
Her funeral mass will take place at 10am on Thursday morning in the Holy Family Church in Ballymagroarty.
The young woman’s family has requested that any desired donations be made to Foyle Women’s Aid.
Tributes have been pouring in for the Derry woman as a devastated community struggles to comprehend the tragedy.
Amy’s friend Micky Doherty paid tributes to the “compassionate” woman on social media this week.
He said: “Funny!! Caring! Crazy wild compassionate and the list goes on she was loved by everyone.
“Thinking of each and every one of you whose lives she touched and all her beautiful family.
“All your voice notes and memories I have I will treasure. Rest easy Amy.”
Another mourner added: “I’ve no words for poor Amy. Whole life ahead of her, nicest, bubbly girl who loved a laugh and loved her family.
“She gave her babies life and got her life taken from her.
“The darkest shadow over Derry of what’s happened to her, may her family, friends and two children find any strength to get through this living nightmare.”
Detective Inspector Ferguson said earlier this week: “Amy was found, badly injured, at around 10.20am on Saturday.
“She was taken to hospital by colleagues from the Ambulance Service but, sadly, passed away a short time later.
“Our enquiries are continuing, and the local community will continue to see a police presence in the Summer Meadows area over the coming days.
“I am appealing to anyone with information to contact us on 101, quoting reference 469 of 21/03/2026.
“Alternatively information can be provided, with total anonymity, to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.”
