Five people including children rushed to hospital after 15-VEHICLE crash on Scots motorway

FIVE people have been hospitalised after a huge crash involving 15 vehicles last night.

The smash happened on the M73 near Gartcosh, North Lanarkshire, around 11.20pm last night.

Emergency crews were alerted to the northbound section of the motorway between junctions two and three.

The Scottish Ambulance Service dispatched six ambulances and two special operations response teams to the scene.

Paramedics blue-lighted two casualties to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow.

Two other patients were rushed to the city’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital and one patient was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Another three patients were treated at the scene.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service sent three appliances to the scene.

A heavy rescue unit was also dispatched.

The busy route was closed northbound as mercy crews handled the incident.

It reopened to drivers just before 4am, according to Transport Scotland.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 23:21 on Sunday 15 March to attend a multi-vehicle road traffic collision on the M73 at Junction 2A.“We dispatched six ambulances and two special

operations response teams (SORT) to the scene.

“We transported two patients to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, two patients to the Royal Hospital for Children, and one patient to Glasgow Royal Infirmary.”

Police Scotland has been contacted for comment.
