Woman, 23, killed in crash between airport bus and car in Co Antrim named by police as man, 60s, seriously injured

POLICE have named the woman, 23, who was killed in a crash between an airport bus and a car in Co Antrim yesterday.

Claudia Jaczyk, from the Newtownabbey area, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The bus driver, aged in his 60s, was also rushed to hospital with injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.

The PSNI, firefighters and ambulances rushed to the scene of the collision on Ballyrobin Road near Templepatrick just after 8am.

Cops confirmed that they were investigating the two-vehicle crash between the Translink bus and a black Citroen.

Pictures showed an airport shuttle bus to the side of the road and a badly damaged car.

The front of the bus and the car are both seriously damaged.

A fundraiser has been set up to support the family and help cover the costs related to the tragic car accident.

A family member said: “She was only 23 years old and had her whole life ahead of her – full of plans, dreams, and hopes for the future.

“She had recently started nursing studies, as it was her dream to help others.

“She was a wonderful, kind, and warm-hearted person who always thought of others.”

The funds raised will help the family cover expenses and other unforeseen costs during this extremely challenging and heartbreaking period.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “The Police Service of Northern Ireland can confirm that the woman who sadly died following a collision involving a bus and a car on the Ballyrobin Road on Saturday, 14th February, was 23-year-old Claudia Jaczyk from the Newtownabbey area.

“Diversions which were in place have since been lifted and the road reopened.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who witnessed the collision, or who may have digital footage which could assist with the police investigation, is asked to contact the Collision Investigation Unit on 101, quoting reference number 341 of 14/02/26.”

Detective Inspector Stewart from the Collision Investigation Unit yesterday said: “Officers attended alongside emergency services partners, however the driver of the Citroen was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene.

“The driver of the bus, a man in his sixties, was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not believed to be life threatening.”
