The search for a 14-year-old boy missing from Meath for more than three weeks has ended in tragedy following the discovery of a body, gardai have confirmed.

Benjamin Spot, known as ‘Benny’, was reported missing on Wednesday, November 19, after being last seen cycling from Market Square in Navan towards the Kentstown Road/Ramparts area at around 5.55pm. His bicycle was found the following day at the Ramparts.

A major search operation, including extensive efforts along the River Boyne, was launched after his disappearance. Gardai thanked the public for their assistance in the search and confirmed that no further action was required following the recovery of the body.

A spokesperson told the Irish Mirror yesterday: “Following the discovery of a body in Co Meath earlier today, our appeal in respect of 14-year-old Benjamin Spot who was reported missing in Navan, Co Meath on Wednesday, 19th November 2025, has been stood down.

Benjamin’s passing has prompted an outpouring of support for his heartbroken family. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to help his father Attila cover funeral and memorial expenses.

The fundraiser states: “It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of Benny, a 14 year old son who brought so much love and light into the lives of everyone that knew him. His sudden loss has left his family facing unimaginable grief.

“Benjamin was known for his smile, his laugh and kind heart. He touched so many lives in his short time and will always be remembered for the joy he brought to those around him.

“During this incredibly difficult time his father Attila is facing unexpected funeral and memorial expenses. I am creating this Go Fund Me to help ease the financial burden so father can focus on grieving and honouring his son without additional stress and spend time with his remaining son Leonard.

“All funds will go directly to funeral costs and any related expenses. Any contribution no matter the amount and sharing this page will be more than words can express.

“Thank you for your love, prayers and support during this difficult time. And massive thank to Meath River Rescue for bringing Benny home.”

At the time of writing, over €9305 has been raised towards the €10,000 goal. For more information or to donate, click here.
