It’s been a tough week for Adam Peaty, who has found himself at the centre of a family feud in the lead up to his lavish wedding. The Olympic swimmer is set to marry Holly Ramsay, the daughter of TV chef Gordon, next month – however, his mother has reportedly been uninvited to the big do.
The Peaty family fallout came to a head earlier yesterday, when Adam’s brother James was arrested over allegedly sending threatening messages to the sportsman. Their dad even spoke out about the drama, telling the press that the row had “got out of hand”.
With Adam’s family troubles hitting the headlines, here’s a look at his scandals over the years – from banning his mum from his wedding to his Strictly ‘almost kiss’ with partner Katya Jones.
Brother’s stag do arrest

Adam Peaty’s stag do ended in disaster this week, with his brother James being arrested after allegedly sending threats to the sportsman. Following rumours that Adam and his bride-to-be, Holly Ramsay, had uninvited Adam’s mother to their wedding, Adam reportedly alerted the police after receiving alarming text messages while in Budapest on his stag.
The 30-year-old was met by police as he arrived at Manchester Airport following his stag do in Budapest for his safety and just hours later, his older brother James, 34, was arrested at his home in Staffordshire.
A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: “We arrested a 34-year-old man, from the Uttoxeter area, on November 11, 2025, on suspicion of harassment. The man was released on conditional bail while our enquiries continue.”
Adam’s father has since spoken out about the drama, saying that “it’s got out of hand”. He told The Sun: “They’re brothers, they’ve always been close, but like any normal family, brothers fight, argue, fall out, make up and start all over again.
“But it’s got out of hand, there’s been very little empathy towards Jamie’s genuine mental health difficulties.”
It’s not the first time that the brothers have fallen out, with the pair rowing after Adam addressed Jamie’s “demons” and previous drug use in his 2021 autobiography. However, they later buried the hatchet.

The arrest of Adam’s brother James is just part of the Peaty family drama that’s kicked off this week. Many noticed that Adam’s mum Caroline was missing from fiancĂ©e Holly’s glamorous hen do at Soho Farmhouse, attended by her mum Tana and family friend Victoria Beckham.
The 59-year-old is said to have stayed at her home in Uttoxeter in Staffordshire instead, where she was looking after Adam’s son George. Adam shares five-year-old George with his ex-girlfriend Eirianedd Munro. As for Adam’s stag do, it was attended by his future father-in-law George, 59.
It’s also reported that Adam and Holly didn’t approve of Caroline’s dress for their wedding and offered to buy her another, while Caroline’s sister Louise Williams went on to claim that she had been uninvited from her own son’s Bath Abbey wedding.
Speaking to the press, Louise said that Caroline is “heartbroken” and that Adam “said the most vile things a son can say to his mother”. She added that Adam’s new in-laws – Gordon and Tana Ramsay – are being “a group of bullies” and that the Peaty family “place real value on love, friendship and loyalty”.
Hopefully the families can bury the hatchet before the big day at Bath Abbey next month!
Swimming hiatus over secret struggle

In March 2023, Adam announced that he was withdrawing from the British Swimming Championships after struggling with his mental health. Posting a statement on social media, he wrote: “I’m tired, I’m not myself and I’m not enjoying the sport as I have done for the last decade.
“Some might recognise it as burnout; I just know that over the last few year I haven’t had the answers. With help, now I know how I can address the imbalance in my life. Whilst I am continuing to train, I have decided to withdraw from the British Swimming Championships next month.
“This is with the sole purpose of delivering the best performance possible in Paris at the 2024 Olympic Games.” He later opened up to The Times about how drinking alcohol was his weakness and that it was an episode that made him withdraw from the British Championships.
âHonestly, Iâve been on a self-destructive spiral, which I donât mind saying because Iâm human,” he told the publication.
Adam later returned to swimming for the 2024 Aquatics GB Swimming Championships and secured a place on the Olympic team. At the Paris Olympics, he won the silver medal in the 100m breaststroke.
Strictly ‘almost-kiss’ with Katya Jones

Adam Peaty was one of the breakout stars of Strictly Come Dancing back in 2021 – however, his Argentinian Tango with Katya Jones was so good, it sparked rumours of the Strictly curse striking the couple.
The pair hit headlines when some fans claimed that Katya and Adam almost kissed one another at the end of the routine – with Adam’s girlfriend at the time even referring to the moment in a social media post. “Watching your boyfriend almost kiss another woman on live tv,” Eirianedd wrote in a jokey TikTok. “Finding out 10 million people also watched it live.”
Eirianedd later described Adam’s stint on Strictly as “the beginning of the end” for their relationship. “My advice wouldn’t be to the partners of those going on Strictly, but for the celebrities participating,” she told The Sun last year. “Involve your family in the process â it can be a very lonely process for partners.”
She added: “And if you’re not strong enough to go through the process â if your relationship isn’t secure, or you don’t know how to handle the intense attention that comes with it â don’t go on the show.”
