A HORSE named after the late Ricky Hatton has made a fitting tribute to the boxer with victory at Aintree.
The boxing icon tragically died in September and was found at his home in Manchester.
Tributes from all over the sporting world poured in for the former two-weight world champion fighter.
The latest of which has come in the form of a horse named after Hatton competing at Aintree.
The horse has been named âHitmanâ â the nickname Hatton used during his boxing career.
Hitman won the Old Roan Chase at Aintree â its first win since Hattonâs death and first in THREE YEARS.
The Paul Nicholls-trained horse came in two lengths clear of second-place Master Chewy.
Co-owner Ged Mason revealed afterwards that £45,560 prize money will be going towards the Ricky Hatton Foundation in a perfect tribute.
He told Racing TV: âAbsolutely delighted that we can help in some ways in Rickyâs memory and legacy.
âThe family have set up the foundation and the proceeds kick it off today.â
Paul Speak, Hattonâs friend and long-term manager, was present at the races to watch the success.
He watched on in great delight as jockey Freddie Gingell rode into first place.
He added: âHe could do it and he did.
âHopefully heâs up there looking down and smiling at us.
âAs we say, nobody needs to fight alone, there are plenty of people with problems.
âYou just have to share your problems with other people and hopefully the foundation is a vehicle for people to do that.â
Hattonâs pals Mason and Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson, purchased Hitman back in 2021 because of his name.
