Eamonn Holmes breaks silence after being ‘booed’ while picking up award
The broadcaster was on hand to accept the News award on behalf of GB News Breakfast at the Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) awards
Eamonn Holmes has spoken out after he was reportedly ‘booed’ while picking up an award at the Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) awards.
The broadcaster was on hand to accept the News award on behalf of GB News Breakfast at the event, which was held on Tuesday (June 24) at London’s Grosvenor House.
GB News Breakfast beat BBC News At Six, ITV’s Good Morning Britain and ITV Evening News to collect the gang and Eamonn was there to give the acceptance speech.
The 65-year-old presenter used a wheelchair ramp to access the stage, where he expressed gratitude to the production team and viewers.
However, the moment was marred by audible boos from some attendees after GB News Breakfast was announced, reports the Mirror.
Despite the reaction, Eamonn delivered his speech, which included a tribute to fellow presenter Charli Peters, who had earlier won the News Presenter award for his investigative work on grooming gangs in the UK.
He later concluded his speech warmly, saying: “For the thousands of people who voted, that is brilliant for us so we say thank you, thank you, thank you, to anyone who did bother to vote.”
Following the ceremony, Eamonn also took to Instagram with a message about the win. Alongside a picture of him and his colleagues on stage, he said: “Thanks to you we did it folks. ! Thank you for voting us better than the rest !!! #Tric.”
And fans were quick to show their support. @sharonmack501 said: “Congratulations Eamonn and the whole team. Thoroughly well deserved.” @p.zijtveld commented: “Congratulations !!!!!!!!’n well done yo you and everyone involved. !!!!!! @eamonnholmes So happy for you.”
@eelainegg replied: “A huge congratulations to you all. Well done.” @maggielauder1 added: “Best breakfast news programme. Never watch anything else. Well done to you all.”
